The Books

Two doors into one world

Read them in any order. Each one stands alone.

Book One · The Athergard Trilogy

The Final Steep

A gothic romantasy

Gothic fantasy  •  Slow-burn romance  •  Necromancy

Teyra brews tea for the dead in the poorest district of Athergard. When a murdered prince walks out of the rain with no memory and a royal signet ring, she breaks every rule to anchor his soul — buying him seven days before it tears itself apart. To save him she'll have to unbury a conspiracy two generations deep, and risk the one magic that could consume her: caring too much.

“A master class in the creation of truly original fantasy.”

A standalone · The Binding of Velundra

Malanthia

The Dark Violet

Gothic tragedy  •  Political fantasy  •  Forbidden love

She was fifteen when they took her from a village of violets and warm bread. At Stonemouth Keep, the regime files away her name, her past, her softness — and returns her as Seraphine: precise, disciplined, deadly. Then they send her to kill the man she loves. A novel about the architecture of conditioning, the cost of obedience, and the thing that breaks when a weapon learns to love its target.

“A darkly poetic, unputdownable fantasy novel.”

BlueInk Review — Starred

The World

The Binding of Velundra

One world. Many doors.

Velundra is not one straight road. It is a world entered from different sides, through different wounds.

The Final Steep opens the Athergard Trilogy with a ghost, a necromancer, and seven borrowed days. Malanthia: The Dark Violet stands apart: the tragedy beneath the trilogy, and the story of a girl remade into a weapon before she understands what love has cost her.

More books are coming. They connect, but each one is built as its own way in. You do not need a map. You only need to choose a door.

Across Velundra, the same truths return in different forms: power always takes payment, memory never stays clean, and one small act of tenderness can be enough to bring down a throne.

About

A. K. Hayat

A. K. Hayat writes gothic fantasy and dark romantasy: stories where love is dangerous, magic has a cost, and power never leaves anyone untouched.

His books belong to The Binding of Velundra, a shared world of haunted cities, broken crowns, old wounds, and impossible loves. Each novel stands on its own, but together they are building something larger — a world entered one door at a time.

Hayat prefers the books to stand first: the characters, the ruins, the mysteries, and the questions that remain after the final page. The name is only the doorway. The world is what matters.

New chapters of Velundra arrive through Steep House Press.
